One of Australia’s largest insurance legal practices builds in strength as Carter Newell welcomes dynamic insurance specialist Stephanie Huestis to the firm’s partnership on 1 February 2025.
A Carter Newell team member since 2018, and the immediate past President of Women in Insurance Queensland, Stephanie has built her profile in the insurance industry practising exclusively in personal injury and product liability for more than a decade.

Stephanie has extensive experience defending claims and considering complex policy interpretation issues across a variety of jurisdictions for local and international insurers, brokers, third party administrators and corporate insureds with high deductibles.
She is particularly skilled at defending complex multi-party construction site and mining industry disputes – specifically defending worker to worker claims and advising (and enforcing) the associated contractual indemnity and insurance issues (including dual insurance).
Stephanie’s new appointment in the Brisbane office is one of several for the broader team, with Nina Abangan (General Liability – Sydney), Ashwin Devanathan (Commercial Property – Brisbane) and Hayley Nankivell (Professional Liability – Brisbane) elevated to Senior Associate, and Caitlin Strange (General Liability – Brisbane) to Associate.
