About Mark

Mark is an expert in professional and directors’ and officers’ liability – acting as both coverage and defence counsel for some of the world’s largest insurers and their insureds for more than 30 years.

Mark is also a Nationally Accredited Mediator with experience in mediations involving a wide range of commercial disputes, having first been accredited in 2003.

With specialist expertise in third party liability policies – including professional liability, directors’ and officers’ liability, medical malpractice, management liability and statutory liability – he advises insures on coverage and defends civil and regulatory proceedings and disciplinary complaints in the mutual interests of insurers and their insureds.

Mark’s practice primarily involves resolving complex, multi-party and high value disputes involving allegations of negligence, breach of contract, misconduct, fraud and Australian Consumer Law and Corporations Act breaches.

Mark is well known in the insurance and legal industries and to their key participants, including barristers, mediators and insurance brokers, and enjoys a reputation of being accessible, commercial, pragmatic and client focused.

He has acted on behalf of accountants, auditors, barristers, directors, financial advisers, insurance brokers, real estate agents, solicitors and valuers, and in the health sector: clinics, dentists, doctors, hospitals, nurses and various allied health care professionals.

With a considered and strategic approach designed to resolve disputes as quickly and cost-effectively as possible, Mark is enthusiastic about utilising mediations to achieve the most time and cost-effective outcome in a dispute. He also has extensive trial experience where a negotiated resolution is not possible.

Leading one of the largest and most experienced insurance teams in Queensland, Mark has received a number of awards including Lawyer of the Year for professional and legal malpractice litigation in 2021 and 2023. Mark also regularly contributes to the industry by publishing guides on professional liability and directors’ and officers’ liability, and is invited to speak to industry groups.

Having practised in multiple jurisdictions – including in London from 1994 until 2000 – Mark has strong relationships within and outside Australia, especially in the London market. He is also a trained and nationally accredited mediator, a twenty-year committee member and past president of the Queensland Chapter of the Australian Professional Indemnity Group, a director of Insurance Law Global and a member of the Australian Insurance Law Association.
